We have finished off the second quarter with a bang. We have just finished a major writing and a major history project. We read some more Bronze Bow, and the boys ran the mile in P.E. In bible, we learned about how John the Baptist was willing to give up his life to prepare the way for God, and that it was okay to be different, as long as you are standing up for the right thing. Meh has created a new game, which can be found at  http://www.khanacademy.org/cs/meteor-mania-30-firepower/1340909228. The riddle for the week is
A king decided to let a prisoner try to escape the prison with his life. The
king placed 2 marbles in a jar that was glued to a table. One of the marbles was
supposed to be black, and one was supposed to be blue. If the prisoner could
pick the blue marble, he would escape the prison with his life. If he picked the
black marble, he would be executed. However, the king was very mean, and he
wickedly placed 2 black marbles in the jars and no blue marbles. The prisoner
witnessed the king only putting 2 black marbles in the jars. If the jar was not
see-through and the jar was glued to the table and that the prisoner was mute so
he could not say anything, how did he escape with his life?

This week began with a day off. We should all take a moment and think about how thankful we are for him. Without his "I had a dream" speech we may still be segregated from blacks. W were all working hard on our research report and received instructions for our final draft on Friday. We learned about the Chinese in history and learned about our new compare/contrast project we will be doing in writing next week. We started discussion groups in reading. We finished the week with a wonderful but rainy grandparent's day. The riddle for this week is
I have a little house in which I live all alone. It has no doors or windows, and if I want to go out I must break through the wall.

Hello again! Another great week here in Mrs. Hartanov's Class. We are a;; working hard on our research projects. Also, THERE ARE SO MANY TOPICS!!!!!!! We learned how Asolom was a terrible son and theat pride comes before a fall. In history, we learned about Chinese dynasties. In reading, we continued work on The Bronze Bow. The riddle is

We capture light, and yet we don't.  We reflect rays of sun, and yet we don't.
Without us all the world is gray and dull for everyone.  What are we?

Just wanted to let you know.

I am so excited! This is the week leading up to VACATION! So much is happening! The apocylopse is on Friday, we made our mummies, and we are doing our passage impact.

What a wonderful week! We had a lot of fun with all of the various activities. We had Mistletoe Mall on Thursday and Friday, reminding us that CHRISTMAS IS ALMOST HERE!!!!!!!!!!! On Friday, we made the Nile Map. We had an extensive study on Egypt and finished Maniac. This is the riddle:
I am 4 letters long, I can be seen in the sky, I am the ocean and the sea, can you guess what I am?

We are getting closer to Christmas! Everyone has began their advent calenders, and maybe some gifts are already under the tree. We began a new round of literature circles, as we near the end of Maniac Magee. We also had our last bible verse in 4 weeks (2 weeks of Jesus study, 2 weeks of vacation). We played charades, and had some great acting. We studied the Jane Schaffer Writing Program, and began reading and writing an essay on Edith Wilson-The Secret President by Sharn Lyn Zuber. See you next week!

It vacation! Hop around, scream with glee! Enjoy your thanksgiving!
